FAQ

Lash Extensions

Should I get lash extensions? Are they for me?

Lash extensions can create a younger appearance on many people. Semi-permanent lash extensions create the appearance of a brighter, more open and rested eye, creating a more youthful and rejuvenated look. Lash extensions will give you a fuller, longer, and natural looking lashes. The extensions are darker and come in a variety of lengths, curls and thickness. They are weightless on your eyes, which make for a comfortable wear. With daily lash extension wear, you will find that you will spend less time applying makeup. Yes, that means not needing mascara anymore! Our lash extensions are bigger at the base, creating the same effect as eyeliner. If you would love to wake up looking put together, lash extensions are for you!

What style is for me?

If you're not sure the style, during your consultation will will discuss the style that would best suit your eye shape and face features.

Can I get lash extensions if my natural lashes are straight?

Yes, lash extensions are for anyone and everyone. The retention may not endure as long as naturally curled lashes but with appropriate aftercare you should have no problem coming in every 2-3 weeks.

Will the extensions damage my natural lashes? Do they hurt?

Not at all! Lash extensions are not harmful if applied safely and correctly by a trained professional. And with well taken care, the extensions will not damage your natural lashes.  Make sure not to pull or rub your lash extensions. Depending on the lash extension style you are receiving, we apply an individual and/or volume extension(s) per natural lash, one by one using high quality lashes and adhesives. We use a specially designed bonding agent exclusively designed for eyelash extension which gives flexibility and comfort to your eyelashes. They are weightless; nothing compared to the feeling of strip lashes, no matter the amount of lashes applied! The moment you open your eyes, you won't even feel that they're there.

What is the application process? How long does the process take?

You will be comfortably reclined with your eyes closed while the lash extensions are applied one at a time to your natural lashes. There is no discomfort involved in the procedure, most clients find it so relaxing that they fall asleep.

Depending on the style and the type of set we are creating, a full set of lashes takes 2 -3 hours max  and fills take 1 - 2 hours. Please note: This depends on the lash extension style and how many natural lashes you have, as we extend each lash.

How long do the extensions last?

Your lifestyle and the type of work you do, has an impact on how long your extensions will last. Our clients return for fills or touch-ups every 2-3 weeks as recommended to keep your eyelashes looking their best. With proper care and touch-up maintenance, lash extensions will last you longer!  You should always return to a refill appointment with at least 40% of your lash extensions remaining for it to be considered a fill. Anything less is considered a full set, and a full set price will be charged.

Why are fills needed?

With lash extensions, there is maintenance. Depending on a persons' individual growth cycle, just like our hair and body hair, most people shed 1-5 hairs a day. So normally our hair and natural lashes individually go through a life cycle every 60-90 days. Which means at the end of your life cycle they go into what’s called a resting phase. That means that the hair has detached from the root and is resting in the follicle until it naturally sheds out or until the new hair starts to push it out. This allows your natural lash attached to the lash extension to naturally shed at the same time.  As much as we would love for lash extensions to be permanent, it cannot be possible. Every natural lash that sheds, a lash extension is attached to it. This is the reason why fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks, to maintain the style look and fullness of your lashes.

During your fill appointment: we remove any outgrown lash extensions and replace them with new extensions. To the natural lashes that have shed out and grown out, we add an extension to that natural lash as well.

How do I take care of my lash extensions?

It is not difficult to care for your lash extensions. When you come in for your first appointment, you will be given after-care instructions before you leave.

With lash extensions, you will want to draw away from any oil based products containing glycols or solvents, it will weaken the adhesive bond of the lashes. When washing your face, gently cleanse around the eye area using a washcloth or lint-free cloth. Cotton or Q-tips are not recommended for cleaning, the cotton may get caught in your lashes and ravel its way around the extensions. The lash extensions may get wet, however extensive exposure of water or steam may cause the adhesive bond to loosen. As long as you are patting them dry and brushing them after, you should be fine. At Goodie Beauty, we sell products to extend the wear and get the most out of your lashes. We also recommend getting a touch-up or fill every two to three weeks to maintain maximum fullness of your lash extensions.

Refer to our aftercare page on the instructions of your lash extension care, here.

Is there anyone that isn't a good candidate for lash extensions?

Because lash extensions are applied to existing natural lashes and so you must have some natural lashes to have them applied. Lash extensions should not, nor cannot be applied to individuals who have alopecia, are undergoing chemotherapy, or those who suffer from Trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder), unless and until the individual has received effective treatment and normal lash growth has resumed.

If you have an eye condition where the eye does not appear healthy or have an adhesive or latex allergy, reasonably you are not the best candidate for lash extensions.

Although our adhesives are developed to be safe for use on skin, lash extensions are never applied to the skin therefore allergic reactions due to contact with our adhesives are rare. Individuals with allergies to other cosmetics or fragrances may experience some sensitivity to ingredients in some of the other materials used to apply lash extensions.

Can I still wear eye makeup?

Yes, one of the benefits of having lash extensions are not having to wear mascara! You can still wear eyeliner (non waterproof) and eye shadows but with mascara we strongly encourage you not to apply any mascara on your top lashes and you will personally see that you will no longer need it!

However, if you feel that you still NEED to wear mascara please only use water based mascara designed for eyelash extensions. Other mascaras may contain ingredients that can weaken the adhesive bond of your lash and cause them to shed prematurely. THIS WILL RESULT IN NEEDING A FULL SET. Please do not use waterproof mascara or eyeliner! We also DO NOT recommend applying any type of mascara to your volume lashes as they will close your volume fans and start to look classic (single) lash extensions. Your volume fans will never be the same again until they are shed out or manually removed and replaced with new ones. Only use oil free eye makeup remover which we retail at our studio . Ask us about eyelash extension aftercare and the product line of eyelash extension safe cosmetics during your visit!

Can i still use lash curlers?

We do not recommend using a lash curler with your extensions. The extensions already have a great curl. This can damage the lash extensions and possibly your own natural lashes. The extensions have a natural curl to them, but if you would like more of a lift, be sure to let your artist know at your next visit and we can change your curl at your next visit.

Can I swim, shower, or go to the spa with lash extensions?

Yes, you can enjoy your new lash extensions with little need to modify your lifestyle. The adhesive we use is waterproof which allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc.. Just follow our aftercare instructions to get the most out of your lash retention.

What face washes can I use?

When washing your face, gently cleanse around the eye area using any oil free face wash. To remove any eye make-up, be cautious not to rub through the lashes, other lint-free products are suggested.

Can I have lash extensions done, if I wear contacts or eyeglasses?

Yes! Lash extensions are completely harmless to contacts and eyeglasses. Should any kind of eye drops be necessary, extra care should be taken to prevent moisture from getting on your lash extensions.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Prior to arriving to your appointment please remove any eye make-up with an oil free makeup remover and follow up with cleansing the lashes with a lash cleansing brush and a cleanser made for lash extensions for optimal bonding. (We retail a lash extension cleanser and lash cleansing brushes, stop by to pick one up!)

How do I remove lash extensions?

Lash extensions are adhered to your natural lash with professional grade adhesive. Removing lash extensions before the natural lash has had time to shed, requires a proper adhesive remover and a trained professional to prevent damaging the natural lash. Never pick, pluck or attempt to pull off your eyelash extensions on your own! Damage can be caused by pulling the natural lash before it is ready to shed. If you need removal of your extensions, make an appointment with Goodie Beauty and we will be happy to remove your lash extensions safely.
