Lash Extension Before & After Care

Follow these instructions closely. Proper prep and aftercare are the biggest factors in how long your extensions last and how healthy your natural lashes stay underneath them.

Before Your Appointment

Every client must complete a client information + waiver form prior to treatment. New clients: please have this filled out before you arrive.

Arrive with clean, makeup-free eyes

No eye makeup the day of your appointment, including on the bottom lashes. Mascara, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and concealer all count. We include a complimentary lash cleansing service to remove any oils or sweat sitting on the lash line to ensure the best retention. Time spent removing leftover makeup is time not spent perfecting your set, and makeup residue leaves a film that keeps the adhesive from bonding correctly, leading to early shedding. A $15 deep-cleaning add-on applies if makeup residue is present.

Use the right remover, and skip wipes entirely

Remove eye makeup only with an oil-free remover made for lash extensions. Never an oil-based one. Skip makeup wipes altogether, even oil-free ones; residual ingredients from the wipe itself can remain on the lashes and affect bonding.

 Skip moisturizer near the eyes

Avoid lotion, cream, or sunblock around the eye area before your appointment as this will cause under eye pads to slide around during appointment.

Come with clean hair and skin

Extensions need a 24 hour drying period after application and must stay completely dry during that window. A salon hair wash is fine afterward as long as your lashes stay dry , just avoid a home hair wash or shower where lashes might get wet.

Wear glasses instead of contacts, if you can

If you wear contacts, consider wearing glasses to your appointment instead, or bring a lens case to remove them once you arrive.

Limit caffeine and liquids beforehand

Caffeine can cause jittery eyes and we need the eyes to be as still as possible when apply lash extensions. Since your eyes stay closed for an extended period, limit caffeine and liquids 3–4 hours before your appointment to avoid needing a restroom break mid-session. Feel free to use the restroom right before your appointment starts.

Ongoing Care

Keep lashes completely dry for 24 hours

No shower, moisture, sauna, or heavy exercise that causes sweating for 24 hours after your appointment. A salon hair wash is fine, as long as your lashes stay dry.

Never apply mascara — not waterproof, not oil-based, not any kind

This applies to bottom lashes too. Mascara contains wax, and once it touches an extension, it permanently changes the texture — no amount of washing reverses this. The affected extensions will simply need to grow out and shed naturally over your regular fill cycle. One of the best parts of extensions is not needing mascara at all.

Keep everything oil-free, everywhere near your eyes

Face wash, cleansers, lotion, eye/makeup remover, creams, sunscreen, wipes. Anything oil-based used on or around the eyes will break down the adhesive bond over time and cause extensions to slip off prematurely.

Pat dry, don't air dry

After a shower or any time your lashes get wet, gently pat them dry rather than letting them air dry.

Clean your lashes 2–3 times a week

Use a lash wash made specifically for extensions to prevent dirt, dead skin, and oil buildup, which can lead to infection if left unaddressed. Dirt, dead skin and oil buildup can clog follicles Use lint-free products around the eyes, and brush and groom lashes each morning and after showers with a clean, dry spoolie.

Hands off

No pulling, rubbing, picking, or sleeping in a way that presses on your extensions.

No tinting, perming or lash lift on extensions

These treatments aren't compatible with lash extensions.

Be cautious with lash growth serums

Many growth serums contain oils that break down the adhesive bond and shorten retention. If you want to use one, make sure it's specifically labeled safe for lash extensions. We carry an extension-safe growth serum in studio.

Book fills every 2–3 weeks

Regular touch-ups keep your set consistently full. Growth cycles vary by person. If your lashes grow faster, you may need a touch-up sooner; if slower, you may be able to stretch a bit longer between fills.

Never remove extensions yourself

Always see a professional lash artist for removal. If you use eye drops, take extra care to avoid getting liquid directly on the extensions.

What's Normal

Natural shedding of 2–5 lashes a day is normal and not a sign anything went wrong. Following the guidelines above simply helps you keep that fuller look for as long as possible between fills.

*Not following these instructions can cause extensions to fall out early or shorten how long your set lasts.
